My thoughts on running a new blog.

As I mentioned before, I recently started a new blog.

It's about me learning how to grow orchids. This has advantages and  disadvantages. Advantage: there's ALWAYS something to write about. So much so that it's difficult for me to stay to my Tuesday Thursday Schedule for it.

Disadvantage, only people interested in orchids will want to follow and read it. Which means I'm once again stuck talking to myself... Sigh.

It reminds me of the very first time I started blogging. I felt like a lone voice in the dark with no one to hear me. But boy, did it teach me to get out there and fast.

Luckily for me, I have a day off today, so I am going to spend this morning hitting as many orchid blogs as I can. The way I see it, if only five people come by to visit, that's okay. At least I'm not talking to myself.

That's what makes a blog successful. The owner can't just sit around and wait for people to find them. We need to put ourselves out there. We have to get involved in the community, learning from them, teaching them and being there for them.

After lunch, I'm also going to visit as many of my regular commenters as I can. I'll also visit some blogfest blogs, hopefully meeting some more people there as well.

Oh... if only I were the Ninja Captain...

Do you have a system for visiting blogs? Do you visit widely, or stick to the ones you really like?

Starting a new blog (especially with such a different topic) is hard work, but you've done it before. It took me ages to stop talking to myself!

As for visiting, I love visiting as many as I can, but when time is short I stick to the people who comment. Then on days when I have time, I'll visit people I haven't been to for a while. It's not scientific, and I'm sure I pop up on some sites and the blogger thinks 'Who the heck is that?'

Hi Misha, how cool that you started another blog. I have been thinking a lot about changing things up because I have been feeling a bit lost with my own blog. I hate the fact that I cannot visit all the blogs that I want to visit. I have still not figured out a good system. Good luck!
Blessings, Joanne

I have a window of blogging time each day and I visit my regular blogs first. If I finish and still have time, then I visit some new blogs, too.

Good luck with your new blog!

I mostly visit my regular blogs. I need to check out more new blogs more often, but lately things have been busy. It's hard enough to visit all the blogs I follow, let alone new ones. I don't know how some people find the time.

Hi Mischa - a 2nd blog would drive me potty! One is enough. I struggle to get round as it is ..

Re a 2nd blog - I post as I want - your orchid posts could be in here as and when ... and perhaps add to another blog later on? I cover quite a range of subjects - but granted as at the moment I'm not a full time author ... may come.

Cheers - and good luck with searching out other orchid fans - must be loads out there .. have fun!! Hilary

Good luck with your new venture. Me, I have enough trouble with one. I have a helter skelter way of blogging. I usually click on a blog, comment, tne click on one of their commenters and repeat the process.

The ones I like and usually once a week - I'm too easily distracted from what I should be doing - writing : )
